Experiences in the surrounding area
Castles and villages
The charming towns of Castelo de Vide and Marvão are among the most beautiful historic villages in the Alto Alentejo region.
In Castelo de Vide, a beautifully preserved castle and the picturesque Jewish quarter with its narrow streets invite visitors to explore. High up on a rocky hill sits Marvão with its impressive fortress and breathtaking views across the vast landscape — a place where Fernando Pessoa once said you could “even watch the birds from above.”
Both places combine history, nature, and spectacular scenery in a truly unique way.
Hiking
Right from our property, a wide variety of hiking opportunities open up through the Serra de São Mamede Natural Park. A well-marked network of trails leads through diverse landscapes of forests, rolling hills, and stunning viewpoints — ideal for both relaxed walks and longer hiking tours.
Around Castelo de Vide and Marvão, you will find many official hiking routes with different difficulty levels, including popular circular trails with magnificent views across the region.
At the farm, we also provide hiking brochures and local tips, making it easy to start your walk directly from the property.
Swimming: River beach and reservoir
On warm days, the area around Castelo de Vide and Marvão offers many opportunities to cool off. Especially popular is the idyllic river beach of Portagem, with its clear water and shaded spots perfect for relaxing.
There are also well-maintained outdoor swimming pools in Portagem and Castelo de Vide, which are ideal for families.
For those seeking quieter places, the nearby Póvoa e Meadas reservoir offers additional natural swimming spots surrounded by the beautiful landscape of Alto Alentejo.
Rail bike
Rail Bike Marvão offers a truly unique experience: riding small rail bikes along a disused railway line through the untouched landscape of the Serra de São Mamede Natural Park.
The route connects the historic railway stations of Marvão-Beirã and Castelo de Vide — a line originally opened in the 19th century and closed only in 2012.
Along the old tracks, you can enjoy wide views of castles, villages, and nature — even passing directly by our farm.
A unique and relaxing adventure that beautifully combines movement, history, and landscape.
Climbing
On the striking rock formation above Castelo de Vide, you will find a small but varied via ferrata, particularly suitable for beginners and offering spectacular views over the town and surrounding landscape.
The approximately 200–300 metre route follows the rock face near Senhora da Penha and is technically moderate (around K2 difficulty), making it accessible even for less experienced visitors with a guide.
Just a few minutes away, there is also a small adventure park, especially suitable for families and beginners. The course includes several suspension bridges up to eight metres high, as well as a zip line and a small climbing wall.
A fun and uncomplicated outdoor experience in the middle of nature — perfect for an active afternoon.
Birdwatching
At our farm near Castelo de Vide and Marvão, an impressive variety of birdlife awaits you.
In the untouched landscape, you may be lucky enough to spot majestic vultures, various birds of prey such as eagles and kites, as well as numerous white storks soaring through the sky.
Around the farm, swallows and many songbirds create a lively and unique atmosphere.
An ideal place for nature lovers and for anyone wishing to enjoy the peace and diversity of wildlife.
